I am a Grand Rapids native who was raised to have eclectic tastes. Food has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember.
As a kid my favorite toys were fake food and play cookware. I used to draw burners with markers on paper and tape them down on a bookshelf in my room and pretend I had my own stove.
When I was in the bathtub as a kid I would bring my play cookware with me and make “soup” with shampoo and hot water and stuff… I got in trouble a few times for accidentally knocking the pot off the “burner” (edge of the bathtub) and pouring soapy water all over the bathroom floor.
For Christmas one year my mom got me a fantastic fake cook set that came with a bunch of different kinds of meat that would turn colors and look more well done the longer you “cooked” them in ice cold water (that appeared to be like sizzling grease) in a plastic skillet.
As a senior in high school I had to choose my “focus” in AP Art, and chose food art, specifically 3-D, usually out of clay. I sculpted all kinds of realistic foods, and also sewed a 5 foot long, stuffed, fleece banana, with peels that actually peeled.
Also, I drew the header for my blog – do you like it?
I am no expert – just a food lover and an adventurer. My goal for this blog is to review local restaurants, talk about my own recipes, and share with you my quest for good, healthy, local food!
Please feel free to send me a message if you have any suggestions for topics you would like to see me cover, or restaurants you would like reviewed. Also, keep me in the loop if you know about any food-related events that I should be covering.
Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity. -Voltaire
